Biman Bangladesh Airlines Fleet

Biman Bangladesh Airlines started its operations using a DC-3 aircraft on January 4, 1972, soon after gaining independence. After acquiring two F-27s, the airline began domestic flights to Chittagong and Sylhet from its base in Dhaka on March 7, 1972. Shortly after, a Boeing 707 aircraft was added to the fleet, allowing Biman to start international operations. By the end of the 1970s, Biman had a fleet of eight F27 and five Boeing 707s serving both domestic and international destinations.

Currently, there are 21 aircraft in the fleet. This includes four Boeing 777-300 ER, four Boeing 787-8, two Boeing 787-9, six Boeing 737, and five Dash 8-400 aircraft.

ABOUT BIMAN BANGLADESH:

Biman Bangladesh Airlines, also known as Biman, is the national flag carrier airline of Bangladesh. While its main base is Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, it also operates flights from two other airports: Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong and Osmani International Airport in Sylhet. The airline offers international passenger and cargo services to multiple destinations and has air service agreements with 42 countries. Its headquarters, Balaka Bhaban, are located in Kurmitola, in the northern part of Dhaka.

Biman was established in February 1972 and had a monopoly on Bangladesh's aviation business for 24 years until 1996. Although the airline expanded its fleet and routes over the years, corruption and mismanagement hindered its progress. Biman flew to 29 international locations at its peak, spanning from New York City in the west to Tokyo in the east. The airline was solely owned and managed by the government of Bangladesh until July 23, 2007, when the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh transformed it into the largest public limited company in the Country.
